Mansfield Youth Soccer Referee Program

Lead the Game. Learn the Game. Love the Game

Welcome Future Referees!

The MYS Referee Program is an amazing opportunity for young players, teens, and adults to stay involved in the game, develop leadership skills, and earn money while supporting our local soccer community.

Whether you’re just starting out or ready to take on competitive matches, Mansfield Youth Soccer has a place for you on the field — as the official in charge!

Who Can Be a Referee?

  • In-Town Referees: Ages 12 and older
  • Travel Referees: Ages 14 and older, must be certified through the Massachusetts State Referee Committee (MSRC)

If you’re ready to join, contact our Referee Director at: mysrefassignor@gmail.com

Refereeing in the In-Town Program

Our In-Town Referees help officiate local games for younger players (Pre-K through Grade 6).

This is a great way for new referees to:

  • Build confidence and gain experience on the field
  • Learn how to manage games and apply soccer’s Laws of the Game
  • Earn money while giving back to Mansfield Youth Soccer

Game Assignments:

  • Assigned weekly by the Referee Director (typically sent out on Wednesday evenings)
  • Payment is made by MYS at the end of each season

Refereeing the Travel Program

To referee in the Travel Program, you must:

  • Be 14 years or older, and
  • Complete your MSRC certification

Travel referees officiate matches between Mansfield and other towns in the BAYS (Boston Area Youth Soccer) league.

Certification Process (Travel Referees Only)

Becoming a certified referee is simple — just follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Massachusetts State Referee Committee (MSRC) website to complete the “Steps to Become a Referee.”
  2. You must be at least 14 years old to take the initial course.
  3. Register with BAYS once certified.
  4. Make sure your name appears in PENDING status.
  5. Include your SSN in your BAYS profile to receive payment.
  6. Email the MYS Referee Director
  7. Include your full name and certification number so we can confirm your registration.
  8. Check your status:
  9. Within 2–3 weeks, review your BAYS referee page for approval and assignment access.
  10. If not approved within two weeks, email the Referee Director for assistance.
  11. Tip: Register at least two weeks before the season starts (Fall or Spring) to ensure game assignments for that session.

Game Assignments

Game assignments are made based on MYS needs and available matches each season.

  • Not all new referees will receive immediate assignments — occasionally, you may need to wait until the following season.
  • Referees will receive weekly email assignments and must accept within 24 hours.
  • Travel assignments are emailed about one week before the season begins.

In-Town: Game assignments are typically sent out Wednesday evenings before the weekend’s games.
