Mass Youth Soccer Academy  - Pick Up Soccer

The pick-up game is the natural and simplest way to play soccer and, in many countries, is the primary method of player development. By playing the pick-up game, every player can enjoy the rewards of scoring and of being successful! Players feel a sense of accomplishment and joy as teams are always made competitive and fair. In this game, everyone comes away a winner.

Approximately 10 x 15 (numbers and skill determines the size) grid with 1.5-2 yd goals. No goalies allowed. Ball brought into play with a pass or dribble. No corners or goal kicks. 2v2 or 3v3 Yellow v Non Yellow (extra player will be on a yellow team to start and that team will sub every 1 1/2 minutes.) After each game the yellows rotate clockwise to the next field. Then one (or two if 3v3 or the extra player team) hand vests to one of the players on the other team. No two players should play more than two games together, so have them split the teams accordingly. Players are their own referees. Goals must be scored on or barely off the ground with out touching a cone.

Use the following for keeping a score for each player for each game:

Goal = 1 point per goal for each member of the team

Team wins = 3 points per player

Team ties = 1 point per player
